    The Oxygen Series

    Opening: Tuesday 17 July, 6 - 8pm

    THE OXYGEN SERIES

This series of oil paintings began after a second trip to the Daintree in 2017. The series celebrates the Daintree Rainforest, the oldest rainforest in the world. It is my hope that someone will be so inspired by these artworks that they will grow a rainforest.

The series was conceived after painting the Water series (based on the Murray Darling River Basin 206- 2013), I wanted to explore another extension of this work and came up with the title The Oxygen Series, so I could pay more attention to trees. Trees absorb Co2 but when you look at how they behave in a rainforest, the on mass carbon sink becomes a cooling system for the entire planet. Another reminder as to how the world is connected by trees (nature).

The body of work began a year ago, and as in every series I create the more I work with a subject, the closer I am to the forms and shapes of the forest so the more liberties I take to explore the subject through paint. It has become my natural progression to work a theme from expressionistic forms through to semi-abstract and then abstract.

Inspired by the artwork of Gerhard Richter, an artist who explores various genres and techniques for one exhibition. I have decided for the first time to show the progression of this body of work as an entire series. Beginning with sketches, small studies of larger works and finishing with large artworks and drawings. I have included my more realistic beginners in this series such as Daintree light and finished with an abstract view of the rainforest, as seen in works such as Looking Skyward.

As in every exhibition I like to give back to a chosen charity and rainforest rescue will be my chosen charity. An artwork is being Auction and all proceeds will go to the charity.
