My work exists somewhere between fantasy and reality:
My work plays with perceived reality as none of the paintings portray an existing scene. The creative process involves creating composite collages based loosely on everyday scenes. Facial features of the individuals are broadly painted or changed with the figures re-imagined within alternative settings.
I explore the boundary between realism, design and abstraction:
The paintings are tightly composed and often an otherworldly glow infuses the images. Figures also interact with their environment, merging or melting into the background. This body of work has a wide range of influences including old master depictions of the figure, pop art, and abstraction.
The work in this exhibition are in oils but mixed media collages and photography have also been an area of exploration in the past.
