Lew Brennan was born an artist, painting and drawing from the earliest age and selling his art from his teenage years. Self taught and influenced by the work of his Great Grandfather Henry Strelein his passion for realism is evidenced in all of his art, most of which explores the principles and values of rural and small town lifestyles and cultures.
‘The genre of realism isn’t the end game of my art but rather the most honest form of imagery I know of to present my art. Drawing freehand with a burnt piece of wood onto handmade paper is nothing short of primal. Aside from the technique of creating realistic imagery the importance of composition, content and empathy of subject are not overlooked, however the quintessential element, and my greatest challenge in art is to create emotion’.
